Stray Streets TNR

A COMMITTEE OF THE COMMUNITY PROJECTS OF HAVRE DE GRACE INC.
501(C)3 NON-PROFIT

Picture
Stray Streets TNR was formed to bring compassionate care and population control to the stray and discarded companion animals of Havre de Grace.  Abandoned by irresponsible former “owners” these animals have been left to fend for themselves and to breed without end. Our mission is to provide, food, veterinary care in the form of spay/neuter, vaccination & emergency services to these homeless animals and their feral offspring in the hopes of preventing their existence in Havre de Grace from being viewed as a nuisance or health hazard in the communities in which they exist. We also act as a resource to assist residents in identifying new strays that need to be fixed, giving humane tips on how keeping strays out of flowerbeds and from taking up refuge under homes and decks.  Because our colony caregivers are on site every day we are also approachable to help owners needing access to low cost spay/neuter services for their own pets, as well as to help put people who need to place unwanted pets with shelters and rescues that may be able to help rather than having the animal turned out onto the streets.

We are not a “rescue”.  We do not have a shelter in which to gather these unwanted animals.  We are an all-volunteer organization who provides basic assistance to discarded companion animals and their offspring.  When space and funds permits, and after determining that they don’t have families searching for them, our volunteers do try to place as many of the friendly animals as possible in safer environments such as barn homes, or with new families as cherished pets but the majority of the animals we care for were born and will live out their lives as strays in colonies where family groups are established among the animals.

Stray Streets TNR is an all-volunteer organization.  Most of us have full-time jobs and families in addition to the thousands of hours we put into helping out the communities and animals in Havre de Grace and while we are here to help and want to help, we ask for your patience.  We are a small number of volunteers working as quickly as we can to assist those the community but the need always outstrips the volunteer-power and funds on hand to do the foot work.

If you would like to join us please contact us, many hands make for a lighter load, and compassionate, responsible people are always welcome to join us in making this community a healthier, more welcoming place for all our neighbors, whether human or animal.

Do you need help with a community cat(s)?

Trap, Neuter and Return (TNR) is widely recognized as the most humane and effective strategy for reducing feral cat populations. TNR involves humanely trapping feral cats living in cities, towns and rural areas and transporting them to a veterinary clinic where they are spayed/ neutered, vaccinated for rabies & distemper & treated for any visible wounds or illness and then returned.
